We are officially under a month till tiny human turns one. All systems are go (by go, obviously I mean I have written a list and aim to tick things off before we reach her birthday). I am going to go overboard. Its nothing that can be changed or stopped, but I hope still to keep it fun (if I blog about how I didn’t get to sit still through out the whole party, please feel free to tell me to suck it up).

Here is a few little tid-bits of how this party will hopefully roll out.

Theme: I’m not really one for ‘themed’ party’s. Reason being that I never tend to go big or bold enough so that it works. I’ve seen some super mums pull off themed parties (Yes B, I am talking to you, waaaaayyyyy jealous of your hard core party skills), I just don’t think I’ve got it in me. Yet.

When tornado is three and demands to have a zombie/barbie/beach/toga party I may just jump at the challenge. I could have gone with a tornado themed party, but I doubt everyone would have enjoyed having fans blasting  everything in their faces. Instead we are just going with a ‘yeah that sounds girly enough’ planning idea. I’ll let you know if I pull if off. If so then I will gladly pretend she had a theme all along.

Things I need to get/sort out/make/order/make another list for:

  • birthday present – we are going to DIY her present, and have aimed to do this for any future children also, wish us luck
  • outfit – so far she will have two costume changes. Don’t judge me, I worked in performing arts.
  • decorations – how much is too much when decorating at the park. I might get in trouble for this one
  • food – really dont want to bake anymore after my crazy christmas baking. Its ok to order all the food for a first birthday right?
  • cake – really dont want tornado to have refined sugar. Am crazy horrible aggressive about it. Must test healthier recipes

I’m excited but scared about how everything is going to turn out, invites are out, there is no turning back now.

Here goes nothing. Much love peeps xxx

Christmas was a whirlwind. It was busy, and lovely, rushed, exhausting, pretty and hard. But it was Christmas, and Indi’s first one at that.

Our little slice of heaven. A cottage by the river in denmark. Yes thats a wisteria as you enter the house.

Yes that is the river (jealous now?). There is a little path that goes right down to it. Would be perfect except for the sludge.

The deck runs down the side and around the river side of the house. Perfect for wine in the afternoon.

A giant island bench that runs from the kitchen to the dining (yes that is a fire place at the end). Was great for all the food christmas day.

The property has all sorts of fruit trees, apples oranges, mulberries, lemons, olives, and apricots. There were strawberries and rhubarb, and herbs everywhere. And to top it off it had its very own holly bush. So glorious.

So that is where we stayed for 5 lovely nights over Christmas. We were only half an hour away from our families (4 and a half normally) and somewhere that we could relax.

On top of the perfect house. Aidan surprised me with a REAL CHRISTMAS TREE! The smell alone was to die for. Aidans parents brought it out to us, I am eternally grateful. We had brought our home made decorations with us (I was going to use as name tags on presents), so we dressed it up all perfect. With the additional help from a loud m&m eating preggo friend (xxx).

The house had a little alcove just as you entered. Perfect for surprise chirstmas trees that make you want to curl up and sleep underneath it.

Christmas day was interesting. I didn’t know what to expect. Indi is into everything these day and running about like a mad woman, so expected she would be fairly happy come present opening. Pfffftttttt whatever. She would much prefer to play with the dust brush and pan.

First impressions. Ooooooooh I could rip stuff off that big green thing.

Our only family photo from christmas. That is indi cranking up because we wanted her to open her presents. Nope, did not care for it.

The calm down after present opening. Santa brough her some bubbles, add them to being allowed to run around outside - boom happy baby.

Indi got spoilt (didn’t see that coming did you). But more importantly she got to spend time with family and close friends, the people that love her. Our aim for the little trip was to have as many people around to celebrate this little ones first festive season. To see the love, share laughs and of course eat too much.

Other parts of our little break look like this:

Decorations, catering, organizing, crafting, planning, keeping routines and road trips. Christmas was an event. I loved it, but I’m glad its over. Next year we are going low key. Staying home (minus road trip) or going to someone elses house (minus organisation). Its my promise to aidan (I did not promise that I wont go overboard with all the before christmas stuff tho hehehehe).

So christmas is done. Tick that box, whats next….. somebodies first birthday (please someone stop me from buying all the pink tissue paper in perth…).

I’ve never really been any good at keeping resolutions. For as long as I can remember ‘lose weight’ has always been my go to. And for as long as I can remember I have never really kept myself focused enough to follow through with that one. All my resolutions fall by the wayside.

But this year I feel different, different in a ‘I created and gave birth to a real little person! I invincible! 2013 come at me bro, I’m ready for you’. Realistically I’m not invincible, and have a low tolerance to anything that takes time, but hey, it’s a new year anything is possible.

So I’ve titled 2013 – the year of making it stick (if you have not seen the movie ‘Stick It’, making it stick refers to when a gymnast attempts a move/routine and gets it right, she makes it stick).

This year I will make it stick. Aim and achieve. Say it and make it happen. Less talking about doing it, more doing it. Talk big, only to win big. Set goals, touch goals.

This year procrastination will be starved. Projects will be finished, challenges will be set. It’s game on in our house.

With in the theme of making it stick, these are my ‘realistic’ resolutions for 2013.
– one random act of kindness per month. Pay for someone’s coffee, baked goods for a neighbour I don’t know, send baby clothes to new parents, volunteer or fundraise for charity. This one is for my heart.
– lose a minimum of 7kgs. The number is out there now. Aidan’s desperate for more babies, but I’m refusing till I shed the weight. I have already started on this one. New years morning i got up for a 6 am run. Hopefully I can keep this up. This ones for my body.
– photography course. I’ve been talking big on this one for three years. I love taking photos for fun. I just want to know all the things my camera does. It’s about time to use it properly. This ones for my mind.
– a new adventure each month. Family travel in our own back yard. It will disgust you to know that I have not seen any other state in Australia besides WA, but have been to Bali 5 times. I am a revolting statistic, I have to change. So we are aiming to visit some favourites spread across our great country this year. Broome, Adelaide, Cairns and Sydney we are coming for you (should our bank account allow us). This ones for my soul.
– finally, we will buy a house. If Aidan wants me to get all walrus again I need some where that I can nest up and make pretty. It’s the deal maker. This one is for my family.

*side note: I’m not even a quarter as eager for more babes at the moment due to a fairly active tornado that I spend a fair chunk of time with day to day. Should that tornado turn into a sea breeze, perhaps I might be more inclined. Yes to more babies, no to more tornados.

So that’s it. That’s my year. I’m ready, lets do this. What’s your resolutions? Do they make mine look like a walk in the park? Or do you have any suggestions on how I can achieve mine? Help is always appreciated.

I get so angry with my own reliance on the technology that allows us such limitless freedom. The internet has become part of everyday life, and many people can not live with out it. I’m finding myself checking facebook more often than not, at random times through out the day. Pinterest has also become a must do, along with instagram and email stalking. If you look at my profile on any of those social media sites I don’t post very often, but the amount of time I’m looking at photos, responding to other peoples status’s or trolling for ideas is unhealthy.

I’m pretty sure I will end up with some crazy laser/internet/techowave/radiation cancer in my finger tips due to how much I use my phone. Some days I swear that they actually go numb. I’m seriously worried. So in an attempt to save myself from having to have my fingertips chopped of later in life, I am aiming to do phone only friday.

The idea behind phone only friday is simple. Regardless of what other fabulous things you can do on your phone, on fridays you can only use it to receive and make phone calls. Hopefully this will mean no checking emails while out for coffee, no checking in on facebook while doing the groceries and no constant messaging while the baby is awake. Its a cleaner, truer reality. And that’s where I need to be.

Its hard. I’ve actually been trying for the last three fridays and have had NO success. Aidan normally point out that I have failed by about lunch time. Regardless I am determined to succeed. Yes it would be easier to hide the phone away until saturday, but where is the challenge in that?

Are you always on your phone? Playing games or on some form of social media? Then why don’t you try phone only friday?

the rules are simple:

– the phone is only to be used to make and receive phone calls.

– you can use a computer for any other internet form of communication or social media.

– messaging is a no go.

My aim is to get to at least 4pm this friday. Let me know how you go.

Each month I’m going to post some of the things I’m doing, viewing, seeing, being etc. Let me know if your doing any of it too.

Reading

After reading the most beautiful book ever last month (Bloom by Kelle Hampton, she writes an amazing blog too check her out here), I needed something that wasn’t a thinking book. So yes, I’ve started 50 Shades of Grey. Mummy porn, well… its… yeah. Dont think I’m gonna comment on this one.

Veiwing

New (to me) MTV show Awkward. It has Teenagers, a love triangle and classic high school drama, I’m so addicted. I managed to watch the whole first season in record time, and  I am up to the current episodes airing in the US. I am so incredibly addicted to it,o the point where I was utterly depressed when I realized there was no more to watch (but new episodes are released weekly so I can live with that).

Suckered back into to watching Neighbors. The Jade-Kyle-Kate storyline has got me a little hooked, but only because Kyle is hot. Tragic -heeeelllllllll yes!

Doing

Still with the crazy felt craft. Possibly something to do with the 35 odd pieces of felt I brought. I’m pretty sure I black out when I go into spotlight, resulting in a larger than normal purchase of random pretty things.

Planning

Preparing myself for travel with a 7 month old. Only 2 months away and soooooooo freaking exciting/nerve racking/terrifying/boundary challenging. I’m making lists, checking weather, preparing wardrobes, reading up on airline guidelines and over thinking just about every aspect. But that’s just what I do, I would do the same thing if I was going away by myself too :).

Listening

Music and I have had a somewhat rocky relationship over the past few months. My dad was my link to music and when he past away I couldn’t listen to anything. Recently I have been able to listen to the radio again. Its still hard, mostly because when ever there was a new song or artist I liked I would tell dad straight away. Anyhoo… a few song on repeat in my head are:

Feel the Love – Rudimental (Ft John Newman)

Earthquake – Labrinth (Ft Tinie Tempah)

Primadonna – Marina and the Diamonds

Being

Healthy. Well trying to anyway. We start week 7 of our 12 week body transformation challenge tomorrow. Officially half way. I am mentally planning what glorious foods I will crazy binge on at the end of these three months. They mostly consist of cake and chocolate (the exact reason I started the 12wbt in the first place). Here hoping it doesn’t get to that.

Happy. Being, feeling, acting, absorbing and oozing it. Its my mental head set this month. I sometimes feel like I’m getting sucked back into that black hole of ‘I miss my dad’. If I take a deep breath and a step back, I can see so much fabulous stuff around me. A beautiful friend of mine is getting married up in Broome tomorrow (sending so much love that way), one of my best friends and a role model for mums everywhere is up the spud with number 2 (my gosh I am so crazy excited about that) and my brother and his gorgeous fiance are coming to visit next weekend. All the more reason to smile.

I will be requiring ideas on all the above topics to keep me entertained. Please feel free to recommend.

Much love peeps xx
